DEYAP operates, controls and maintains three WWTP (Waste Water Treatment Plants) with its own resources and staff, thus ensuring the most cost-effective and efficient operation of the plant.
In the year 2016, the company’s WWTP (Parikia, Naoussa, Marpissa) processed a total of 718.831 m3 of urban waste water. The processing efficiency of the plant is high, with the result that the marine ecosystem, which is the disposal area of the treated waste-water, is fully protected.
Biological treatment in all three WWTP is done with the activated sludge method, more specifically with the method of prolonged aeration with simultaneous sludge stabilization and biological nutrient removal.
WWTP of Parikia Paros
It has been operating since 2001 and processes urban sewage and sludge of the community of Parikia. It’s located in the area of “Tilegraphos”, about 1.500 m from the settlement of Parikia. The unit was designed to service a population of 17.000 inhabitants. Today’s average daily operation of the WWTP is 1.200 m3.
For the transfer of wastewater from Parikia, an external network has been constructed which consists of:
- Central Drainage Pipe
- Agios Konstantinos station (200 m3/h)
- Post Office station (600 m3/h)
- Krotiri station (450 m3/h)
WWTP of Naoussa Paros
It has been operational since 1992 and is processing urban waste water in the community of Naoussa. It has been built in “Dialiskari”, about 3.500 m from the settlement of Naoussa. The unit was designed to serve a population of 11.000 inhabitants. The current average daily operation of the WWTP is 1.050 m3
WWTP of Marpissa Paros
It has been operating since 1997 and processes urban sewage and sludge from Marpissa, Archilohos, Logaras and Pisso Livadi. It is located in “Kaminaki”, 1,5 km from the centre of Marpissa within the Natura 2000 area GR4220025.The unit was designed to serve a population of 5.000 inhabitants. The current average daily operation of the WWTP is 304 m3.
In order to save water resources, the company has in recent years prepared a preliminary study entitled: “Modernization and upgrading of the Biological Treatment of Parikia aiming in a higher level of Wastewater Treatment and the utilization of treated wastewater for irrigation without restrictions”, which was approved by the Prefecture. The aim of the project is to improve the operation of the existing WWTP of Parikia, to reduce the waste of drinking water for the urban needs of the Municipality of Paros and to reduce the consumption of drinking water for various urban and peri-urban uses, or for irrigation.
The company is in the process of preparing a preliminary study on “Investigation and evaluation of possible ways of management and disposal of the sludge produced by the company’s Wastewater Treatment Plant” within the framework of the general policy implemented in the European Union on waste management that aims to reuse them.
The formation of sludge (with high content of soil-friendly nutrients) makes it a waste of high environmental value.
