Press release about the incident in Agii Anargiri, community of Naoussa
In response to publications on this matter, we would like to inform the public that there is no case of sewage leakage from the DEYAP network polluting the beach of Agioi Anargyroi in Naoussa. On 06-06-2018 there was damage to the main water line Φ140 passing through this point at the intersection with a dirt road, with the result that tens of cubic meters of clean water leaked to the sea surface, disturbing soil, dust and sand in the process. This is likely what caused the turbidity in the sea, but there was no leakage of sewage in any way.
On 08-06-2017, following the “complaints” made in the press and on social media networks, water sampling was carried out by staff of our office, and we also requested the presence of the Health Directorate to confirm the results. No trace of sewage pollution or leakage was found in on-the-spot measurements, plus samples were also sent to an outside laboratory in Athens for additional confirmation.
DEYAP regularly inspect and maintain all pumping stations and invest large sums of money in upgrading their equipment. Only this year, more than €130,000 from our resources will have been spent on the Naoussa pumping stations, replacing electromechanical equipment, building repairs and installing a state-of-the-art tele-monitoring system. Our staff are on standby every day on a 24-hour basis to deal with breakdowns and emergencies.
We ask the public to always communicate with our call centre to report any incident. Anonymous and unreliable information on the Internet or in the press can only cause concern and hurt tourism. Most importantly, if there really is a problem, 24 hours would have been lost until our office was informed. If sensitive citizens want to be well-intentioned and report such incidents, not only to create impressions for whatever reason, we advise you to first communicate directly with DEYAP for information and explanation.”
