Announcement for the commencement of works in the Project "DESALINATION UNIT IN THE PAROS KROTIRI AREA"
Paros 28/03/2024
The construction of the new desalination plant in Krotiri Parikia started these days. It is a new facility with the capacity to produce 2,000m³/day of drinking water initially, while it can easily be expanded to 5,000 m³/day when the needs increase in the future.
The project consists of three independent stages:
- The construction of seawater wells in the area of Ag. Foka, as well as the installation of the transmission pipeline to the desalination plant. Work has started and is expected to be completed in early summer. Work has started and is expected to be completed in early summer.
- The construction of the main facility, with buildings, infrastructure and electromechanical equipment. It will take place in a privately owned plot of DEYAP in Krotiri, next to the Biological Treatment Plant and the PV Park. Work is expected to start in the next few months and will take around 12 months.
- The construction of the depressed drinking water transmission pipeline from the new facility to the reservoir of Dilios. Work is expected to start at the end of the year.
This is another important infrastructure project for Paros, with a budget of 4.410.000€, financed by the Recovery Fund and the DEYAP’s own resources. Its completion is expected to ensure water sufficiency for the entire northern side of Paros, as apart from Parikia and Krotiri, which already have other sources of water supply, the largest quantities will be channelled to the wider area of Naoussa, from Kolymbithres to Santa Maria. Also, in combination with planned replacements of the water supply networks, it is expected to solve the chronic problem of pressure deficiency that occurs in the areas of Kalami and Kamares, due to the presence of calcium carbonate deposits in the pipes and the blockages they cause.
Residents, walkers, as well as drivers using the road in the area from Ag. Fokas to Marcello, to exercise special caution due to the presence of crews and project machinery.
